Alamo creative director Henri Mazza was quoted in a Florida Sentinel article which explored the increased popularity in "sweding," or “re-making something from scratch using whatever you can get your hands on.”
Here's what Henri has to say:
The chance to remake a movie can inspire an amateur filmmaker, a professional with a free weekend or a bunch of drunken guys with a video camera, said Henri Mazza, the creative director of the Alamo Drafthouse, a chain of movie theaters based in Austin, Texas. Mazza has organized a contest inspired by Be Kind Rewind.
So far he's received more than 150 submissions, with two of the more popular movies to swede being Jurassic Park and The Karate Kid. People love seeing how amateurs pull off iconic scenes, Mazza said.
"The draw is the creativity of how they're going to handle the problem, whether it's how you make the Top Gun dog fight scene look fun or how to pull off a flying crane kick," Mazza said.
